Someone in the group will insist they do not sing. Consider that a scheduling issue for later. First, there is dinner to arrange, a room to understand and the small matter of getting everyone to the same part of Queens.

Rewind is on our radar because its published concept puts several parts of an evening under one roof: a cocktail lounge, food and private karaoke. Its official address is 45-57 Davis Street, cellar level, in Long Island City. This is a researched introduction to the format, not a review of the cooking or a report from a night out.

That format has an obvious appeal. A dinner reservation followed by a second venue can turn into an accidental logistics job. One person wants to leave, another wants dessert, and somebody has already ordered a car. A place offering different activities at one address gives the group a possibility worth investigating.

A table and a karaoke room are different plans

The official lounge page ↗ welcomes walk-ins and recommends reservations. Its food description points to Asian comfort-food influences, including Taiwanese, Japanese and Korean references. The karaoke page ↗ lists eight private rooms with different themes and capacities.

Those facts do not mean a lounge booking comes with a karaoke room. Choose the experience you want, then confirm the reservation terms for it. Think of dinner and singing as separate decisions that may be able to share an address. That is much safer than inviting a crowd on the assumption that every door will be available.

The first decision is the headcount. A group of six is not a group of six plus whoever happens to be nearby. Before paying a deposit, ask how changes affect the room, the bill and the reservation. Friends are allowed to be spontaneous. A booking system is allowed to have limits.

Money deserves an unglamorous conversation before the glamorous one. Find out whether there is a room charge, a food or drink minimum, or both. Ask what is included, how long the booking lasts and which additional charges apply. Rewind’s FAQ ↗ directs guests to the terms shown during booking and in the confirmation. This article does not quote a universal per-person price because one has not been verified.

Give the menu its own attention

It is easy for the microphone to swallow the food discussion. That would miss the point of choosing a place that advertises both. Read the current menu, consider dietary needs and decide whether the group wants dinner or a few things alongside drinks. Those are different appetites and different budgets.

Without a visit, it would be premature to name a must-order dish, promise a particular portion size or describe the room’s sound. The useful move is to decide what would make the combination work for you. A birthday group may want everyone together for the whole evening. Two friends might only want the lounge.

There is also no rule that every person at a karaoke booking owes the room a solo. Some people enjoy choosing songs, joining a chorus or listening. An invitation can make that clear before it starts sounding like an audition notice. Let the reluctant singer keep their dignity and a seat.

Check the hour, not just the day

The venue’s published policy becomes 21 and over at 9 p.m. and requires valid government-issued photo identification for entry after that time. Its lounge and karaoke closing times are not identical on every night. Confirm the schedule for the part of the venue you are booking, along with access arrangements for anyone who needs them.

Long Island City gets to be the destination here, rather than the place a Manhattan evening spills into after somebody checks prices. Send the full address, leave a reasonable arrival window and keep the booking confirmation available.

Then let the song selection become the complicated part. It was always going to anyway.
