Editorial Standards
Attention must be earned. These standards govern Borough Signal reporting, recommendations, corrections, sponsorships and contributor conduct.
Truth before theater
We do not fabricate visits, meals, interviews, quotations, reader reactions or access. A researched story is labeled Signal Desk. A Field Signal badge appears only when a contributor actually visited or attended.
Independence
A free meal, event invitation, trip, product or early look never guarantees coverage and never guarantees positive coverage. Material support is disclosed. Affiliate relationships cannot secretly change ratings.
Sources and attribution
Time-sensitive facts are checked against official organizers, public agencies or other trustworthy primary sources. We link readers to useful outside sources without copying their language. Anonymous sourcing requires a strong public-interest reason and editor approval.
Images
Documentary images must be original, licensed or supplied with permission and appropriately credited. Editorial scenes are never presented as firsthand documentary evidence of a specific restaurant, event, person or artwork.
Corrections
Substantive factual errors receive a visible correction or update note. Minor spelling and formatting fixes may be made silently when they do not change meaning. We do not backdate reporting to imply presence or knowledge we did not have.
